Referent: Andrew Hammel, Assistant Professor for American Law at the Heinrich-Heine University

This seminar will offer an extensive overview of the basic terminology used in American legal proceedings and court documents. The subjects covered will include:

1. Sources of Law and Basic Terminology
2. Legal Education and the Legal Profession
3. Courts and Juries
4. Causes of Action & Trials
5. Citing and Interpreting Laws and Judicial Decisions
6. Contract Terminology
7. Tort Terminology

The Seminar will be taught in English by Andrew Hammel, Assistant Professor for American Law at the Heinrich-Heine University. Mr. Hammel has published extensively, is licensed to practice law in Texas (inactive) and in various American federal courts, and has ten years of practice experience. In addition, he is a certified by the American Translators' Assocation for the German --> English language pair, and has extensive experience in specialized legal translation for law firms and university presses.
